In Your Eyes

In Your Eyes

A Poem by Ennay

How am I so dumb?

In your eyes.

I fantasize.

A world lived without you.

But nevermind.

Because how could I live without you?

I played by the river.

With the rocks and stones.

I sang.

To the birds that listened real closely.

They were calling out to me.

A warning I didn't understand at the time.

And as I grew older.

I looked around.

At the girls who followed closely.

Under your gaze.

So I swore.

I would never fall in love with a man today.

Gum in my hair.

I realize.

It's from the men who don't care.

For nothing short of attention or fame.

But as I fix their plates behind the counter.

I hold my best as to not start a fight.

Because only "they know what's right."
