The Days Ahead of Us

A Poem by Ennay

The Days Ahead of Us

I look forward to the day when I can finally be next to you.

To the rainy days, where we can stay inside together.

The late nights where we stay up to watch a movie.

Me realizing that you fell asleep before it was even finished.

And then I let myself fall asleep with you.

Maybe we’d get a dog, then again, you’re allergic.

But I don’t mind, not at all.

As long as I don’t have to be near a snake

We’ll be okay.

I want to hold your hand.

I’d lean my head on your shoulder.

Keep close to you, probably to steal your warmth.

Even if it wasn’t cold.

I’d just want to be close to you.

I look forward to a life that is much different than this one.

To a life that I could spend with you.

Whether it’s cold or warm, I don’t care.

You could spend money on me all you want, but I’ll never ask for anything that doesn’t include you.

Because truly, that’s all I want.

And I know you aren’t big on gifts, but I’ll give them to you anyway.

Because I love you.

More than words can describe and it pains me that I can’t show you how I feel.

So I’m stuck with my words.

But one day it’ll be different, I know it.

Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn’t imagine the things that I do.

But then again, I wouldn’t imagine them with anyone else.

Which is a bold thing for me to say.

Especially so soon.

But I just know, I love you.

And that’s all that really matters.
