Missing You

Missing You

A Poem by Ennay

I looked for you in places you wouldn’t be.

Watching the festivities with a small smile.

Knowing that you’d probably be standing in the corner.

I watch as my niece proudly tries to show off.

Searching for anyone who can speak spanish with her.

It made me think of you.

I wrote a poem for my cousin.
She was so curious about my writing, peeking over my shoulder to read it.

Just like how eager you are to read whatever I’ve written.

I was quieter than usual today.

Though that’s how I usually am at family events.

Retreating back into old habits.

But the entire time..

I had wished that you were there.

Or that could’ve talked to you.

A good portion of the time I was daydreaming.

Thinking of what it would have been like.

If only you had been there.

I think you would have liked it.

I feel like they would like you too.

Perhaps just as much as I do..
