Flower In The Weeds (A Bloom For You)

by Alyssa DeGuzman and A.J. Derro

There's a field where the grass grows twice as high,

and the flowers half as tall.

And the pretty girls go skipping out,

and try to pick them all.

They comb the grass with big round eyes,

and sort through all the weeds.

And before you know it, there's nothing left,

except the youngling seeds.

I head out with my basket, much to late,

as dusk steals over the land.

And the pretty girls go skipping home,

with their bright blossoms in hand.

I search the fields with mounting dismay,

at the slim pickings I find.

But stubbornly I search on,

for the blossom that must be mine.

Because if i quit, then that's just proof,

that it's not meant to be.

That these lush fields are barren waste,

and there's no flower for me.

There's a world where tears fall twice as much,

and the smiles are half as real,

and the gentlemen are civil and such,

as they try to find something to feel.

They comb the crowds with dark brown eyes,

in search of something true,

and all to often, there's nothing but lies,

and no one to be honest to.

I head out, alone, with my open heart,

as other men make their way,

and find their truth, and find their peace,

and in the crowds I stay.

I search the faces with growing fear,

for I find no eyes like mine own,

but I could no more end the hunt,

than I could love alone.

To live a life of lovelessness;

no, that's just not how life goes;

I know there's someone out there for me,

and I know that she knows.

Each moment shared with her means more,

than what may come, and what precedes.

I've found what I've been searching for;

my flower in the weeds.

There's a time when time flies all too fast,

and the rhymes and feelings flow free,

and sonnets sent are well received,

and you and I are we.

Believed is not a higher thing,

bettering our reach;

beginning with ourselves, we meet,

and meld, and learn, and teach.

I hold my hand out, steeled to wait,

as longing steals my pride;

you hold out, hesitate, but hate

to want, and more to hide.

Deciding, cried in tenseless tears;

fears forgotten now;

finally, your freedom,

and your flower, in your vow.

Finished wishing, found, and sound;

solely by the searching through.

Whole by having had been told

that there's a bloom for you.

There's a dream at the edge of my memory,

in the shadow of sleep and awake.

Of a voice that excited and thrilled me,

and a hand that I reached out to take.

A hand that I held upon waking,

it's fingers entwined with my own.

And the warmth that quiets my shaking,

that tells me that I'm not alone.

and

It's cold and lonely here at night,
when the body in my arms is my own.
No one to live for, no reason to fight,

not when I'm here all alone.

It's in the depths of the dark that I see you,
where you glow like no other before.
And it's then that I reach out and feel you,
it's then that you open the door.

To ardent endearments unspoken,
to stretches of skin yet unkissed.
To a history of promises unbroken,
to the pieces of you that I've missed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's a girl in the world of my dreams
Where the earth's limitations separate no more
And in these incredible imagined scenes
I have everything, it seems
All that I've been searching for
A hand held in mine while we're walking
And the comfort of your company there
The sound of your voice when you're talking
And the way you're so stunning
So lovely, I can't help but stare
and
It's been a long time I've been lonely
Twenty two years before we found each other
And I've found what I thought was love before
But it was only
A raindrop to the river we've given one another
All our magical moments to treasure
All our memories not yet made
Our future together
Now and forever
And our love, which will never fade
