Such Segregation

by A.J. Derro

Paint the world in optimism

Baby blue belief

Colors of the unmarred prism

Sketch out your relief

Decorate your masks and tug

Firm over eyes and fit

A comforting lie, a polite hug

The lip of canvas over tooth

Catch breath at the wit

Choose it over truth

Fool the followers

Keep alone a line

Cast out on the surface

Trowel into form

Such sensual surroundings

Let them not find purchase

Look from eyes that will refuse

The light that glances off serration

Separating calmer hues

From the wild

Such segregation

Child's games of innocence

The choice against the punishment

When honesty's a rule long since

Been broken, and round wishes, bent

Coiled, tense, and kept up so

The energy creation takes

Maintenance to play the show

Acting out the many fakes

Beautiful, really! the play with colors at the beginning caught my eye and the two last lines of the first verse captured. You have real potential and real talent, and the ability to create beautiful and powerful short sentences that build a whole.
