House of Cards

House of Cards

A Poem by English Rose

 There they all were:

Framed in white and blue

An optic illusory speck

Against gauzy yellow horizon

Anna a porcelain doll

Such an awkward age

Hands clasped tight

Hoping she could

Ooze in to the bed of poppies

And vanish.

Papa ordering the muzhiks about

Mama set in to her needlework

Fingers deftly weaving

In and out, in and out

And of course Nanny

Lined like a well loved leather boot

Dispensing wisdom

That no one wished to hear.

Some years afterward

People wondered where they had gone.

Snow White crushed by Rose Red

In the exodus

Of lost princesses

Spirited away by knights in shining armour

Languishing in coral boudoirs

Pawning eggs and pearls

Incredulously lamenting their untimely

Fall from grace.

I really like this. Dark poem. I like it. Like when someone read it, they wouldn't be like, "Snow white CRUSHED by Rose Red!- tee hee"
I really love this poem. I LOVE the detail in every short paragraph.
This is really good.
Great job!
