The Centuries-Long Wait: The VoiceA Poem by Shayne PlunkThis is a short story about a vampire who lost a loved one. After centuries of waiting, the vampire hears the words uttered by his beloved. The ringing of a thousand bells sound But I hear your voice over them all. The light, merry sound of the bells is melodic, But your words are far more soothing. Your voice, carried over years and centuries, Reached my ears and struck my heart. Passionate phrases carried on the rythmic flow of time Cannot be deterred by any means or falsehood. The gentle tone placed into your words reached me And I knew the meaning without doubt or hesitation. Though your body withered over time, The emotions buried deep inside your heart never faded. Tears streak my face for the first time since your passing. I smile softly as I look to the deep blue sky. The ringing fills my ears again, Brining my back into the present. The bells continue to ring in the distance, But your voice still echoes in my ears. Maybe one day my words will find you as well. Or perhaps they already have. © 2009 Shayne PlunkAuthor's Note
