Linger

Linger

A Poem by Ender Mckenzie
"

(Rewritten) You sunk in my skin, you flew through my blood

"
You were a drug I kept on taking.
The drug that keeps me up.
Your lingering sensation made me forget all my problems, all my doubts.

You were a drug I kept on taking,
Helping me live in a fantasy, making me dream of a mystical future.

You were a drug I kept on taking, making me happy in the immediate moment, but as your effects relinquish, I am left with a lingering joy.

You were a drug I was always eager to take. Side effects I yearn to kick in. The taste of you in everything, a lingering heaven I long to be in.

Then, in an instant, all the narcotics were taken away from me.

And now,
I'm starting to have the shakes from not having someone to be addicted to.
