today in class

i was talking to my friend about art

i said

"I like art but I'm just not good at it"

because she is absolutely incredible

and she looked me in the eye and said,

"Art is still art no matter how bad you think

it is

you made something

it can be just a box

and it is still art

because you created something"

that wasnt exactly what she said but it was something like that
i just asked her and i'll fix it once i know what she said exactly bc it was beautiful

Any form of art is beautiful! Sculptures, books, dance, painting, architecture. There are more of course, but I think you understand what I mean. Art is whatever you create, whether it's good or bad. Art isn't meant to be perfect and thats the beauty of it.

This is so true. I didn't think I was good at art for the longest time until someone asked if they could buy one of my pieces. It was a great feeling to know that even though it doesn't look like good art to me it might to someone else.

my mother-in-law is 94yrs old and has been involved deeply with art and poetry for over 70 yrs. and she would be cheering your friend and encouraging you to go for it .. its all in the eye of the beholder eh!? your poem creates a scene for me .. i like its simple and direct statement about being creative

i think this has a really neat concept - like i know i say a lot of times that i suck at things (art included) and your friend essentially just like destroyed the whole concept of sucking at art, which a lot of people think about themselves. i like the meaning and how its all phrased nice and short and simply.

Art is art - what is lovely to one person isn't to another... a box may only be a box to one person...beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that jazz.

nice, I guess I can relate. Once you have a box there is no end to how it can be art, the pleasure is taken in the expression and in the making, sometimes wouldn't that be the point, if it is appreciated also that is important also

Everyone is different when it comes to creating or being creative. We are all creative in our own way. It's comments from others of a negative nature that make us believe that we are not creative. Keep your creative side personal and keep doing what you are doing.

Such a great outlook. I say that about poetry too.
I really don't think there's bad poetry, not when you write what you experience and feel.

Very cool. She was right you know, art is art, as long as you enjoy what you have created, who cares what anyone else thinks. I write on another site where someone posted a piece complaining about poets using italics and fancy fonts because that wasn't poetry. My response was, if I write it, regardless of if I have italaics or fancy fonts, if I say it is poetry, then it is poetry. You don't have to like it, but this is me and that's what I do. Nice piece here Robbers, just keep writing and painting and building boxes if that is what you want to do.

Yeah, that's exactly right. I happen to like when poets do that, it makes it more original and unique and depending on what the poem was, it connects to it. Thank you very much :) x
