New Moon

New Moon

A Poem by Ma'at

silver light shone upon the water
reflecting dark clouds
dancing on the surface
crushing the stillness
like shattered glass

indigo sky
dotted with white sparkling light
a sound occurs
peaceful silence breaks into two uneven halves
a scream cracking the mirror of night

loud footsteps pounding against the grass
but the pursuer won't give up
galloping as he goes

silky mane flowing in the wind
he leaps across the river's rocks
gracefully his hooves touch the soil
determined to survive

he sprints through the forest
barely painting
confidently he leaps and bounds
not giving up
no one can see him
no one can hear him

up and up he goes
through the winding trail
through bushes and shrubs
through tangles of dead leaves
ducking under branches
finally

he reaches a land of breezy grass
swaying calmly in the wind
he stands proudly in the center
lean and strong
dark mane blowing in the wind
he matches the color of night
he is New Moon.
