The WalkA Poem by EmyBow
As I walk down the road a car flew by; I looked back and watched as the street signs moved further and further away from me. I watched the yellow lines on the road move with me but stay the same. It was starting to get dark out and I became frightened. I knew I only had enough battery on my cell phone to call one person. I saw myself as a baby taking my first steps, not knowing the first step could turn into today. I say my Daddy pacing in the kitchen waiting for the phone to ring. I saw myself opening presents on my birthday, one of those years that I got everything I wanted. I saw my mother walking out the door when I was just three years old. I saw my sister whispering to me as we looked out the window, “She’s not coming back”. I saw Charlie from Perks Of Being A Wallflower feeling like he just couldn’t belong. I saw Boo Radley and Holden Caulfield shaking hands, telling me to keep walking. I saw Frank N’ Furter singing “I’m Going Home” at the end of Rocky Horror Picture Show. The farther I walked, the more faces I passed: Becky and Ashley, Scott and Ian, Mikey and Miche, Trooper Steve and Mr. Galvin all telling me to just go home. As I walked past a barn, I saw me, Miche and Mikey in the hayloft the night we ran away, laughing and dancing to silent music. I saw Holly Golightley missing her dear brother, Fred. I saw Dorothy running home after Professor Marvel told her Aunty Em was sick. Then as the sun set, there on the corner of Knox Cave and Township, I took out my phone: “I need a ride home”.
