Souvenirs of our heart

Souvenirs of our heart

A Poem by EmpressPoetess

Hello, faded photographs~

Do you remember me?
that smiling young girl,
who freely gave her heart
only to have it torn apart

Hello, old sad love letters~

Old memories stained with my tears
I haven’t seen you for many years
those tender words that I shared
with a boy who never cared

Hello, dust covered memories~

I still remember you
that love I gave was true
my heart to him, I did dedicate
but his heart did not reciprocate

A woman now with wisdom on my side
the pains he left have gone and died
I’ve rid my heart of pain and tears
So goodbye this time, silent souvenirs.

Nice, simple, real, and life!

Beautifully composed and so eloquent in its remembrance of times past - the 'salad days' of youth - and recognition of the here and now...
