While I weave,
don't wake me
while I dream,
don't shake me
leave me to my work,
let me unfurl
and bring new colors
into the world
Don't rouse me, let
my wings unfold
on their own,
at their own pace,
to their own tone
Don't tap my wings,
for they are still damp,
let me breathe on
my own soft feathers
This pattern I see,
from where does it come?
It is tattered now,
but I will sew it together
I'll blend the laughter,
the joy and the tears
that have touched it
down thru the years
I grasp a dark velvet
ribbon and wind it
into a time I've never seen
how is it, I can
smell the ocean
to which I've never been?
Give me space
while I create,
so that I may
open my wings
with the story I tell,
or the song that I sing
So when I rise,
don't touch me
please, let me be,
for, if I am to fly,
I must be free!!
