Can I love you in my dreams

Inspired by the song "I can dream, can't I?" By The Carpenters

 

As the warm sun rises beyond
the golden winter horizon
softly, whistles the winter wind
earth and sky joins without end
but this is just an illusion
like the joining of your heart  & mine
there is no sweet conclusion

I know you'll never be
anymore than my fantasy
but if you don't mind,
would you please let me
Love you in my dreams

Can I pretend that your smile
is shining only for my face
while you have me locked in
your strong, tender embrace?
Yes, I know we will never be
the lovers I wish us to be
but I can still know joy, it seems 
by loving you in my dreams
    
Your lips seem to whisper
my name everytime you speak
oh, how sweet, oh what a treat
my racing heart makes me weak

Time and space has drawn a line
so that you'll never really be mine
But gorgeous man, if you don't mind
can I love you in my dreams?

The poet bares her affection for a man who doesn't return the feeling. Sadly, her existence is not made known to him. Nonetheless, she finds joy in loving him in the world where dreams and fantasy are real.
