My father

My father

A Poem by J.Nico

I shed my first tears today for my father.

He was out there, amidst the sea of salt

When his vessel turned in the water,

And the cold took him under assault…

There he stayed all night gasping for life,

Freezing all through the night,

At home, unaware, rested his wife,

But my fathers each breath was a fight.

The dawn brought light and a passing ship,

Now he lies asleep and barely alive.

He’s my father and I love him deep,

And to that sea of love must I also arrive.

I waited in silence for far too long.

Did I ever tell him how much he means to me?

How much I love him? In that I was wrong

And now it’s time to let it show, and be.

I’m leaving now; I’m going to tell him that,

Whisper it if he’s awake, or if he’s asleep.

I’ll be there, with him, no matter what,

Or how much still I have to weep.

J.Nico nice poem for a father from his son. Yes many of us do the same mistake as you said that the son dint reveal his love to his father while he was still alive. Son's whisper and his wish to want it hear his dad is very pathetic. Nicely written.
