Souls in the sand

Souls in the sand

A Poem by J.Nico

Some indistinct mist met my approach, as if to stop me

From taking another step, but with the beach just there,

I could see the sea crashing softly in the sand, fresh and free,

I wouldn’t just let that gaseous wall ransack my will bare.

I left soft tracks in the sand as if I was flying, lightly touching the soil,

And ever so slowly light poured into my sight of the washing ocean,

It was not a bright clear day, yet so clearly I could sense the turmoil

Of passion between water and earth, light as air, hot as fire, with emotion.

There I stood, endless moments, rocking with the waves embrace,

Far inside me I felt memory shuddering, shaking of the dust,

Of eons past in complete, forgotten stillness, and with gentle grace

I recognized myself in each thrust and in each intake, as lovers must.

I missed you there and then, in a heart beat, flushed with it all.

You have always been mine as I have always been yours. This I knew.

But make not the question, ask not why. Doubts were left on the wall

We both crossed, through space and time, to start all anew.

We may be yet worlds apart, but space has no essence now, or age.

We are all the need we knew and were, and will again be,

Because circles in the sand are swept like the boards of a stage

But the true life of souls is not a play, it simply is, as do we.
