Inner Monster

Inner Monster

A Poem by Wonderland Asylum
"

Let me know if I've already published this one, I've lost track of what I've published and what I haven't.

"

She looks around.

At the creatures that surround her.

The hideous monsters..

With their snarky smiles.

And deadly stares..  Monstrous words..

But she herself was a monster of her own kind, wasn't she?

What kind of creature.

Takes pleasure.

In inflicting pain.

On one's self?

A MONSTER.

She is the worst.

The others are fluffy bunnies compared.

To what she was.  What she is.

Only a MONSTER. Would want more pain.

Seized by the creature within, will

She give in?

Impressive, how long she has held on,

and resisted

The delicious calls,

Of the creature caged within.

With all of this taking place  inside her mind,

While to the naked eye, she simply smiles.

I don't know... to me monsters are the one who seek others pain - they are obsessed with it. To create pain within yourself is very human because you cage it instead of letting it lash out. Not good but definitely not a monster. Very good flow and expressive piece, it is so raw and deeply emotional.

The monster will appear. Can't be stopped. I enjoyed the poem. You could fear the monster growing and coming alive. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

Sometimes the monster within, is the monster who protects you.
Pain is expressive, and can even be pleasurable.
Maybe why she's smiling. Like it.

I feel like I traveled to a different world. I can imagine the monsters surrounding me. There are times when I too think I myself am a monster. When you do things you want to regret, it makes one go crazy because you can't change what happened. I really like this poem

This means a lot coming from you, Jay.
THank-you so much.
I like the way you've written this like a dance between sarcastic tongue-in-cheek humor & a deeper probing of one's coy inner games of monsterhood. All monsters are not all bleak. I like the way this one is complex & constrasting & intriguing. We are all trying to keep our inner monster in a manageable corner! *sigh!* Good use of vivid details & originality (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
