Chapter two~

Ayumi scratched her head waking up, she couldn’t remember falling asleep last night.

The room seemed heavy, and her vision was still blurred as she began to count.

“1…2…3…”

“Erm, Ayumi are you awake yet” Kaen said through the door, bending slightly as he knocked with his two first knuckles.

Ayumi didn’t answer, she had to finish first, “34…35…36…” she continued, her body starting to get rid of the numbness.

“I need to talk to you about something important” Kaen said a little bit louder.

Ayumi continued, “61…62…63…64…”

Kaen sighed and turned the door knob knowing it was unlocked and looked at his sister lay limp in the bed moving her pink candy like lips moved with no sound escaping.

“89…90…91…92…”

“I am leaving soon; I need you to pack your bags, your going to be staying with Winry for awhile…” Kaen said.

“99…100…” Ayumi finished and was speechless staying there. Her eyes welded up with tears and she nodded, “Okay brother” She said.

Kaen couldn’t see her tears from the distance, so he just nodded and exited the room closing the door for her.

Ayumi laid there in silent for 5 minutes.

10 Minutes

25 Minutes.

She slowly stood up and unbuttoned her night shirt letting it slid off her full figured body and slid on her clothes, a pair of black pants and a white t-shirt that hugged her.

She ran a brush through her long silk like black hair that draped to her lower back and stared at herself in the mirror. Her eyes were red. “Why…” She said quietly to herself. She had expected Kaen to be leaving. A man he called Mustang visited numerous talking about business. She knew it was a matter of time.

She grabbed a backpack and stuffed her clothes into it, some shirts, some dresses, pants, and undergarments. She looked over at her bed, the covers and sheets tousled slightly from her sleep. She saw her stuffed cat and walked over. She picked it up into her fragile hands. The fur was matted up, and the button eyes were gone, leaving one. The one ear was in worse condition than the other. Kaen had always told her about how when she was a baby she would suckle on the cat’s ear rather than a pacifier mom had given her.

Mom…

Dad…

Ayumi stuffed the cat into her bag and pulled on her shoes leaving the room.

Kaen was downstairs looking at the pictures that were all in frames all along the fireplace. “Are you ready Ayumi” He said not turning her glance from the picture.

Kaen was about Ayumi’s age now in the photo, his hair was short and not all in his face, his face in a big grin holding a fish on a hook that he had caught. Ayumi was beside him in a yellow sundress much younger than Kaen. “I remember, you insisted that you helped catch this one” Kaen said.

Ayumi nodded, “Well I did, I played in the water at one end scaring the fish to where you were” Ayumi said approaching and stared up at her brother’s face. He was a broad jaw line, but his face was longish, definitely handsome.

“Kaen, I have a question…” She said, her glance went down and she stared at his automail hand. “Why do you have a fake hand…I don’t remember you telling me” She said and Kaen stiffened.

The question, he had never wanted to say, but he smiled slightly and turned to look down at her, his automail hand on the top of her head messing with her hair, “I sold it to the black market’ he said and turned heading for the door, “Let’s go”.

Ayumi nodded barely following him out.

The sky was orange for the morning; a storm was on its way. The trees moved every now and then. The wind carried in the fresh smell of the storm. The calm before a storm,

Ayumi took in a deep breath and gave a sigh of ease.

The path to the Rockbell’s wasn’t as far when she was distracted by the beauty all around her. She admired everything as if it loved the compliments she gave.

Inside the smell of fresh pastries was thick in the Air, Koda must have been cooking.

Ayumi smiled entering the house; it wasn’t going to be all that bad with Koda there to protect her from Den.

“Your back already?” Koda said through small words looking down at Ayumi greeting her with a arm around her in a loving embrace, and waved at Kaen who nodded back and entered the next room searching for Winry.

“You must have known I was coming Koda” Ayumi said sitting down in front of the delicious treats and Koda chuckled softly tightening the bun her hair was in.

“Actually, I wasn’t, but some of this is yours, I know how much you like your sweets”

Koda said and tilted the basket of cookies towards Ayumi in offering and Ayumi took 3 smiling as she began to eat them happily.

“I am going to be living her for a while, that’s what Kaen said” Ayumi said and lowered her voice slightly, “I think he is joining the military” Ayumi said looking down at the floor.

“Well I am glad that somebody will be here to talk to me about something that isn’t so technical,” Koda said and sat down taking a cookie as well eating it little by little.

“Koda, what happened last night?” Ayumi said and looked up at h.

Koda gave a confused look, “What do you mean?”

“The last thing I remember doing yesterday is being carried by Alphonse, in the rain”

Ayumi said scratching her head with a blush.

“Well, from what Alphonse said, and what I saw, Kaen, really wanted to get his hand finished, so he stayed. You fell asleep and Alphonse said you were talking in your sleep about going home, she he carried you home” Koda said.

Ayumi smiled softly, “Well that was nice” She said and looked down.

Kaen wrapped his arms around Ayumi in a tender hug, “Now I will occasionally be visiting every now and then, so you make sure you’re here” he said tilting Ayumi’s head up so she could see him. “You’re so short” he said.

Ayumi blushed embarrassed and kissed his cheek, “I love you brother” She said quietly and he let go of her. The man he called Mustang was standing out in the yard, waiting.

Winry hugged Kaen as well and he blushed. Koda waved from the kitchen. Kaen waved back.

Ayumi looked down, ‘everybody’s leaving’ she thought.

‘I hate goodbyes’ she thought and watched Kaen disappear over the hills.

“Koda, could you help Ayumi into her room?” Winry asked and Koda nodded taking

Ayumis bag from her and Ayumi’s body felt even heavier than she did with the bag.

She stood there on the ground, the grass tickling her ankles.

When everyone was gone, she fell to her knees, than on her face, lying flat on the earth. The rain began to pour, making her white shirt transparent, showing her pale skin from under the white shirt, and her hair clung to her head.
'What is going on with me...'
