Visiting Brothers Mechanics

Chapter One~

Kaen awoke, putting his hand to his mouth yawning. “5:00 am…” he said quietly to himself and looked out his window; the sun hadn’t even risen yet. He slid a shirt over his body, he was muscular, and tall, his imperfection was the automail hand that dominated his right hand.

He slid up his hand and buckled the belt and walked out of his room, careful not to wake his little sister and traveled outside.

He always tried to get the work done before the sun was up, and it was over 90 degrees outside and burnt his skin. “Damn…” He sighed starting to head toward the backyard.

Rays of sunshine covered Ayumi’s cheeks, warming her face and she sat up yawning, clutching her ratty old stuffed cat to her side. Kaen always teased her about how she is too old to be sleeping with a stuffed animal, but she didn’t care. It smelled like mom. And dad.

She stood up and enters the hall with clothes for a shower.

After her bathroom rituals she listened to hear Kaen outside cussing, “Damn It!” he shouted and Ayumi ran outside almost in command in a light blue almost white dress, her long black hair flowing to her lower back, with small curls hidden under the straight hair. Her eyes matched turquoise, and the shine would make a diamond green with envy. 

“Kaen are you okay?” she said quietly holding her hands out and Kaen stood up from his spot under the tree.

“I am tired of Winry playing favorites!” Kaen said and sighed hopelessly, his automail flicked and flopped.

“What do you mean playing favorites?” Ayumi said getting down on her knees and took the automail hand into her small fragile hands.

“She thinks that since…Edward….and I both are missing the same hand, that I can just have his old broken ones” He sighed and laid back. “I hate him so much…” he said.

Ayumi frowned, her arms over her lap, she had loved the Elric brothers, and they were her closest friends. “I’m sorry…but Edward and Alphonse aren’t so bad” She said.

“I don’t wanna talk about it” Kaen said hushing Ayumi. She held her breath stopping on command and nodded. “Get your shoes on, we are gonna have to go see Winry today” He said.

Ayumi gulped, “Oh no…Den…” she thought remember that evil little dog that always crashed her around and nibbled on the ends of her skirt.

 

Ayumi scurried up the tree frightened, “No! Stop it” she said softly as the dog barked, he didn’t know better, he just wanted to play.

Ayumi grabbed traction with her shoes and wrapped her arms around the tree limb, her long hair fell, but just barely out of Den’s reach. “Koda-Chan!!!!!!!!” Ayumi shouted. She hated shouting, but she had too.

Not only moments later a woman with chocolate brown hair and sapphire eyes came out wearing a apron and regular casual clothes and wrapped her hands around the soft underside of the dogs belly, “I’m sorry Ayumi, I think he just likes you” She said.

Ayumi slowly climbed out of the tree dusting off her lap, “I am sure he is friendly, but ever since that big bulldog bite me, I just don’t like dogs” She said.

“You’re gonna be 15, you should work on getting use to your fears dear” Koda smiled.

Ayumi nodded, Koda was right. Ayumi smiled at Koda and followed her inside the Rockbell house only to hear Kaen cuss again, “DAMN IT! WHAT WAS THAT FOR?” Kaen shouted and Winry crossed her arms under her chest.

“How dare you think that about me Kaen” She said and turned around looking off into the distance.

Kaen gave an uneasy noise and sweatdropped, “No, I didn’t mean it like that, I was just wondering if you could make me a customized automail hand, it would mean the world to me” he said.

Pineko puffed on her pipe and sighed, “Can’t we have a day in this house where nobody is yelling or saying something vulgar” She said and stared at Kaen who rolled his eyes, 

“Imsorryitwonthappenagain” He said quickly, all at once.

“Alright coming through” a familiar voice sounded and everyone to see that Edward was bursting through the door and Alphonse was following, his armor clanking as he followed Edward.

“Edward you really should knock when you are entering somebody else’s house” he said.

“Oh quiet Al, we practically live here” Edward said and was halted to see Pineko standing in front of him looking up at him, “You should learn to listen to your brother, it seems like he has a better head on his shoulders than you do” She said.

“WHAT WAS THAT YOU OLD HAG!” Edward said.

“S**t…now everyone here…all we are missing now is Armstrong” he said rubbing his temple, getting a major headache.

Koda made a small blush and waved at Edward only to not get a wave back since he was to busy arguing with Pineko.

“Well why did you two decide to stop by?” Winry said to Edward relaxing her arms and looked to Edward and Alphonse.

“I need a small repair” Edward said.

Kaen stood up, “UH-UHHH I am going first” He said waiting patiently enough and Edward sighed.

“Fine, whatever, Koda likes me better, don’t you?” Edward said walking over to Koda who was bright faced, and didn’t know how to answer.

“L-Let’s fix up your arm” She said grabbing her toolbox.

Ayumi kicked her legs off thegrass, sitting down in the dirt and smiled up at the sky, her hair barely touched the cool blades of grass that tickles her hands and feet..

She startled and turned only to see Alphonse there and she smiled turning back, “Evening Alphonse” She said and kicked her legs more looking forward.

Alphonse took the seat next to her and turned, his metal clanking together, “You know everyone is inside eating Ayumi” He said looking down at the small girl.

“Oh, I hadn’t noticed” She said and leaned back slightly and felt the rain touch her face delicately. “Mmm it’s raining” She said.

Alphonse broke from his fixation and looked up too, “Oh, I hadn’t noticed” he said almost distantly and he put his hands on the grass he sat on.

“So…I know what your next objective is, Edward already told me” Ayumi said and turned her head to look up at him, the two yellow orbs on her turquoise eyes that seemed to gleam in the rain.

“Oh…so you know,” He said and turned nervously. “I’m sorry, I told brother that we didn’t have to, but he keeps insisting” Alphonse said and Ayumi grabbed Alphonse’s hand, there was no warmth, but it made her heart pound faster for some strange reason.

“Don’t be sorry Alphonse, you deserve your body. So you two are leaving, and this time, you guys aren’t coming back until you have your body back. I understand” Ayumi smiled sweetly up at him. He would have blushed if he could.

“We will miss you, and Winry, and Koda” he said. He felt like he had to stay. “Brother should get better before me” He said.

Ayumi grunted, “Stop it Alphonse!” She said and held her breath. She shouted again. “I love Edward just as much as you do, but at least he has a body. You don’t, so If you guys come back and He had his arm and leg, but you don’t have your body im gonna…” She said and stopped.

Alphonse stood up and picked up Ayumi, leaning over her to protect her from the rain. 

“What are you gonna do Ayumi?” He said his voice more warm than anything else. She blushed and closed her eyes and leaned against the cold armor that she grew to love.

“Nothing…” she whispered.
