Aaravians

Aaravians

A Story by SilenceIsBliss

Eons ago, there was a planet known as Aarav, which means “peaceful.” On this planet lived an odd species of humanoids that possessed white, silver, or golden wings, with the occasional, rare pair of obsidian toned feathers. Humans always commented that they looked like angels, but that’s not exactly true. They are winged beings with magical abilities like the Faeries or the Pixies. These odd, winged beings were not originally from Earth, but from Aarav. The race is split up, name-wise, by gender. The males are known as “Pakshin” which means “Bird” or “Winged”. Females are the same, meaning wise, but are called Adenydd. If one wishes to just call themselves a part of the race, they’re called Aaravians. The Aaravs have a monarchy, where the king and queen of Aarav rule over the planet with the assistance of the rest of the royal court. The planet is abundant in vegetation and has an atmosphere much like Earth's. It's a beautiful planet with waterfalls and fields of flowers of rainbow colors. It is said if one were to visit such a place, they'd stay and never return home.

The females get their wings on their eighteenth birthdays, and males get theirs on their sixteenth. Males tend to work in the military field, making them need their wings for maneuvering and escaping enemies as well as mapping and trading, where women use their wings mostly for transportation and to teach their children how to fly when they come of age. If a child is not properly trained and educated, when their designated birthday comes around and their wings appear, the child may go into a state of amnesia, making them forget everything up until that point in time. Their memories can be regained through meditation or through their dreams, though the dreams do not guarantee a remembrance of the events, which is taught by the parents to their child to help them get through the transformation process. In order to perform a successful meditation, the Aaravian needs to have complete silence, complete tranquility, and their wings must be called forth and wrapped around them, creating a safer environment for the user. Their wings may seem flimsy and thin, but in reality it’s the strongest part of their body. The downfall of this, though, is that if their wings are attacked then they cannot fly safely and comfortably. This leaves the person vulnerable to all kinds of harm.

The energy the Aaravian possesses is stored in their spine, where their wings appear and disappear. The person is able to feel the energy and draw on it every so often to do certain things. It’s used to hide their wings and make them reappear when they’re needed for flight. This energy can be used to access their abilities, but this energy is not infinite. It needs time to regenerate much like a human’s. The person needs to eat and sleep in order to regenerate all their energy. The good thing is that the energy supply is very great. Not infinite, but large. The Aaravian is capable of flying for days without stopping. But this is definitely not recommended, for it takes longer to regain all of your energy. The amount of time one flies is how long you must rest in order to regain that much energy back.

~The Wings~
The wings can have a varying wingspan, depending on how old one is and by the color of the wings. The longest wings are that of the golden variety. Those symbolize elders and the more experienced of the Aaravians. Silver is the next level, usually the offspring of the elderly (Grandparents, in human terms), which would be the parents. They are the next in level of experience, and know enough to get their children started into the world of Aarav. Grey wings are for the newer Aaravs, which would be children, who aren’t experienced in the least. Black wings are the shortest, and cause you to be labeled an outcast. No one is born with the black wings, but they earn them for doing certain things. If one loses all their energy and doesn’t replenish, their wings slowly rot, turning them the dark black color, making them useless. Blackened wings cannot be used, and keep your energy at the zero mark. If one goes against any of the laws of the Aaravian people (and are caught doing it), their wings will begin to spot and eventually turn that dull, deep black, making them useless. This is a rare occasion, for most Aaravs are kind and courteous and follow the rules. Wing color can be changed by meditating once a certain level of knowledge and skill has been reached. Elders are usually assigned a bundle of Aarav children to teach so they can earn their wings on time as well as have the colors changed. Wing color can also change depending on your role in the families of Aarav. Royalty's wings are usually a pure white color. They are mistaken for angels the most, because of their near perfect features and the snow-white wings they possess.

The Aaravian is able to make their wings disappear for short periods of time. This is not recommended, though, for the appendages energy will build up in their back and shoulders and if one didn't summon them when the time was up, the wings would force themselves out of the body, causing great pain and energy loss. The process of making the wings appear isn't a difficult one for Aaravians, but it is always a bit painful, for their bodies have to adapt to the wings rather than appearing human. Their whole body moves as their bones hollow and the wings grow from their back.

~The Monarchy~
The monarchy rules over the planet of Aarav in the center-most city known as Argentine All the other smaller towns have forms of government, but are all loyal to the royal family in Argentine. The longest family that had ruled was the Saki family, which were very well-known for their beauty and kindness towards others. They were, in history, the longest family to reign over Aarav. Eventually, though, their peaceful planet was targeted as a source of goods, such as oils, food, gems, and other valuables. A war started up between the Aaravians and those who had been thrown out for misbehavior. The monarchy fell, leaving the planet a warped mess of chaos. King and Queen Saki sent their daughter to the planet Earth using their teleportation abilities. The daughter was raised to be a human, though the queen planned to retrieve her daughter eventually when she turned seven or eight. This never happened, for the planet was unable to reach Earth. It is said that the King and Queen have begun research to get to Earth in order to 'rescue' their daughter from the poison that is human race.
