Emmie,
Such a heartbreaking poem. The woman in you feels so trapped, like life has just zipped past. I was in this same boat one year exactly. Not writing, dreaming, nada. I am free now. You wrote this piece with as much a plea to your partner as well as to yourself. Remember, we are the life we live. We create what we desire..
Hey, Emmie, from the beach. Wow, this piece says a lot. I can relate after my 23 year marriage grew apart, and I've given and received the passionless kiss. It's a shame, but it happens. Life rolls over us after marriage, when during courtship, nothing could prevent the sincere coming together. Thanks for sharing this piece and baring your soul. However, keep smilin'...Lee
It's a familiar story well captured in your words... charged with deep feeling and the emptiness of the situation... I'd be really interested in your reaction to my poem 'Marital miss' - a bit more explicit but reflecting how it can be... for me anyway. Thank you for brave writing.
In the words of BB King, The Thrill is Gone! The kiss, however, is a metaphor for the larger relationship the marriage, when our idealism clashes with the reality we live and the acknowledgement that we have made compromises along the way. We have made those compromised in the name of something larger, perhaps, family, and the ideal of what a relationship should be, the sacrafice it entails. This line says it all "There's nothing there but an empty mess. But I vowed to stay until eternal rest." What we do in the name of love.

Very heartfelt piece... I could feel the heartbreak reading it... and the ending, that does hurt, cause there is nothing more tragic when a kiss has no passion.
Awww don't be sad Emmie...this is an emotional write for sure. I would ask but you did say "it is what it is and that's all I've got to say." great write like always my dear friend...
