the monster unfurls in my chest,
prods and tests and tests and tests, grinning, mirthless, quickening the pulse, stirring the heartbeat, erratic, yet i am unmoving, a contrast to my beating heart, then the monster is enticed, briefly, by the fallacy of humanity, its plastered smiles, its forgotten promises, the monster’s head tilts, briefly, and then it is gone, unnoticed by anyone, but me © 2016 EmmaReviews
