Chapter Five

Chapter Five

A Chapter by Emmy
"

Ryan and Stella finally end up at school, but what character inhabits the locker next to Ryan's?

"

It could have been worse, but this was a bad scenario: I was a girl, turned into a guy, on my way to my first day of school with a witch who couldn't cast a spell correctly if her life depended on it. What were the olds things today would seem normal? With Stella around, those chances are slim. I thought all of this through, yet I let the lamb follow me to school.

If anyone asked, we were neighbors and friends. I did not want to pretend to be a brother or, even worse, a boyfriend. We got our schedules and Stella and I only had one class together. Fine by me. That one class we had was lunch, so she wouldn't be casting spells in classes while I took soothing naps. Although, I think I'd let Stella turn my turkey sandwich into a slice of turkey with gravy and mashed potatoes. With my luck, though, she'd probably turn the sandwich into a live turkey and let it run about the halls.

I liked how our lockers were on two different sides of Hawksford High. I pitied Stella for having a locker near the wrestling room though. Sweaty guys tackling each other: not a pretty sight. I was in a nice hallway. The lockers reflected light from the rays beaming in from the outside. Those rays came in through a gloriously large window looking out to a garden managed by the custodians. I think smiling at that secretary woman was a good idea.

I was opening my locker when a strange character appeared in front of the locker next to mine. He was a rather tall guy, muscular build in fact. He had dirty blonde colored hair and deep brown eyes. He looked at me like I had three heads, for God's sakes. He looked deep in thought for a moment. The bell rang, and he was off like a jet who was late for the final takeoff.

I shrugged it off as I made my way to first period. To my surprise, the mystery guy was in my class. He was next to the only empty seat. I looked fror another one nearby, but I was interupted. "Mr. Green," a voice came frmo behind me.

I turned to see a man a bit taller than me. I figured me must be my teacher, Mr. Rubin. He smiled at me and politely led me neaqr his desk. Cooly, he looked to the other kids. This was the worst part of new schools. Teahcers liked showing off new kids like priceless artifacts at an auction. "Guys," Mr. Rubin said. "This is Ryan. He's new here, so don't eat him." Some students chuckled. "Thanks, guys!"

He looked to me kindly. "You can sit with Mr. Calvin, in that empty seat," he said.

I took it he meant the nystery guy from before. I sent and slid into the seat and the guy was staring into space. I didn't like the looks I got from all the other students. The boys looked rather envious and the girls looked like Robert Pattenson had just walked into the room, dispite my dislike of that actor. I was screwed. What scared me a bit more was when the mystery guy looked at me suddenly. He smiled and said, "I'm Derek."

Mystery solved. After class, he caught up with me. "Hey," he said.

"Oh, hey," I replied.

Derek stretched his arms over his head. Suddenly, I didn't know where I was going. "Derek," I asked, "where is room 213?"

"Down the hall and to the left," Derek explained, "and follow the doors down to room 213. They're in numerical order from 200 to 214."

"Thanks."

"No problem." He hesitated. "Say, don't you have the locker next to mine?"

"Yep," I laughed.

"Cool," Derek said quickly, "see ya later!"

In each class, I must have been secretly morphing into Brad Pitt or some other hot actor. For some reason, all of the girls kept staring at me. It was actually pretty creepy, dispite my supposed ego. I can't wait until school's over.
