Chapter 1A Chapter by TryingToSeeThe story starts off in the middle of a fight. It doesn't go to well for our main character.
"Edge! Look out!" I hear Topaz scream to me. What is going on? One moment we were out on patrol the next everyone had started to fight. I spread my senses searching for my enemy's mind. I can't find any. The next moment I'm flying through the air.
I feel the world through my teammates minds, their thoughts and emotions bleeding into the world around them. There is nothing there. As I hit the ground I can't help but think I have never needed to be able to see as badly as I do now. How can I fight something that does not think or feel to allow me to see it? With a sickening crack from my skull I jerk to a stop. My 'vision' blurs and deactivates, I panic. I hear Hit yell around the ringing in my ears right before all the air in my lungs is forced from me. I scream as I feel my ribs shatter under an immense weight. It is there for only a second. When it's gone I block off the pain in my mind and try to force myself into a sitting position. I have to see what is going on, but when I let my sight go everything is a blur. Closest to me is a shape that feels like Hit. It spins towards me and I hear a shout that sounds like his voice, just before I feel myself lifted from the ground. My sluggish thoughts bleed out allowing me to see what looks like a giant hand around my neck for a moment before it smashes me back down head first into the pavement. My sight leaves me once more. I can not move. I can barely breathe. I can't even hear anything anymore. Just a horrible white noise that would have given me a headache if I didn't already have one. The weight on my throat leaves only to be replaced by another around my leg. Though it is there only a moment. I wish I was able to blackout but thanks to my powers that is not possible for me. This is the first time I have ever truly hated my inability to sleep. I don't know how long I lay there, just trying to breathe. I don't even try to see, it can't help me here. I am scared, I have never been so defenseless. I scream again as I feel arms around me, lifting me. It takes me a second before I realize that they aren't trying to hurt me, oh but they do. It is all I can focus on. They lay me down and I'm still screaming though I can tell that they are trying to be gentle. I don't know how long it takes for me to stop, but when I do I start thinking again. I brace myself, then try to turn on my sight once more. I can't help but whimper from the pain I feel. My only way to see is damaged even more then before, and it pains me how the world around me blurs and shifts in and out of focus. Hit is holding my hand, I can feel it now that I have noticed it. His panic is almost blinding and I'm wishing I could just pretend to lose consciousness and turn my sight back off. I know he would stay with me though and I can't have that. So I focus past the pain, it's not the first time I've had to ignore this amount. I have felt worse, of course that was before I joined this team, the Obsidian. I focus on him, only on him. It is only when I notice that he is trying to talk to me that I realize that I still can't hear anything. My head injury must be worse than I thought. His panic rises and I wince when his image flares as bright as the sun.
