SilenceA Poem by Emma Hagreenwhen anxiety presses down on you at nightSilence The silent is deafening, Yet a swarm of bees. My ears are softly ringing, Bringing me to my knees. I know not what, I know not why. But the silence is enclosing, Why oh why oh why. I feel by heartbeat, Faster faster faster. Anxiety overcomes me, I am servant under master. She closes in upon me, Choking, shaking, in control. I am no longer capable, She presses on my soul. But when she finally leaves, Oh what a sight to see. The world is a-brightening, I can finally breathe. I made it through the silence, I willed her away. Now if I could only hold on, Until the light of day. The morning dawns, Soaking in the sunlight. The glorious rays near and far, To protect me, my own knight. I hope the sun will stay for now, I cannot bear to see her leave. But when the darkness comes again, Breath, Breath, Breathe. © 2020 Emma Hagreen |
