Chapter One

A Chapter by EmmaKate

 Dear Miss Ava Kingston,

This year is the 10th anniversary of the Masquerade ball. It is for all the important people in our special society and we would like to invite you to be a guest at this event. This year is a very important year as it has been a decade since we have decided peace between our races. We will be giving the people an important message about the upcoming year.

Place: Master Hall Palace

Time: 6:00pm

Food and Wine will be supplied

We hope to see you there, Miss Kingston.

Kind Regards,

 Master Hall

This happens every year we get a letter saying that we are invited to the ball which you could never turn down the right to go because it would be seen as ‘not giving a s**t’ and me being a hunter means I need to be there no matter what.

So at the moment I am standing in front of a mirror looking at myself. The dress itself was a deep purple and was accessorised with a jet black mask.

"I do not like going to this thing Leala?"

Leala was like my bestfriend and maid. Most people I know are hunters and can be quiet mean so I tend to stay away from them, even though they are my own kind.

"Ava, you know that you have to go and I swear I'm not saying it again, so please be quiet about it, while I'm helping you get ready."

"Yeah, yeah I know. It's just that I'm so tired of going to this ball just so I can meet new people who have been turned into creatures, that are unbelievable to the human eye. Why do you think I don't talk to my parents anymore. They made me come into this life, not me."

"I know Ava, but please just stay still while I fix your hair. This isn't easy."

"Of course, it's not easy not being able to talk to my parents. I've always wanted a normal life. I want to just forget about everything."

Anger rose through Ava's veins.

"I was talking about your hair, Ava." Leala giggled as she put the final touches to Ava's hair.

"Oh." Ava replied as she settled her breathing. It was a hunter's personality to get very angry, very quickly.

We sat in silence for the next five minutes as I watched Leala finish off my outfit and as she dressed into her formal maid-wear. She was to accompany me to the ball as I refused to have body guards follow my every move.

Leala smiled at my reflection in the mirror. I smiled back as my baby-pink toned lips reached either side of my face a car horn honked from in front of my house. I peeked my head out to see a pearl white limousine parked into of the entrance. I turned back to Leala.

"Ready?" I questioned her as she replied with a faint nod and entwined her arm through mine, leaving my room in a casual stroll and out into the hallway.

On the way what of the room I just kept thinking that this is going to be one hell of a night; nothing fun in the matter.

I walked down stairs and saw one of my maids standing next to the door waiting for me. When I was younger my father made sure that if we wanted to leave the house there always had to be a maid opening the door because we don’t want to show ourselves as being weak.

When nearing her she opened the door with a big smile on her face

“Miss Kingston, have fun at the ball tonight.”

“Thank you Eliza I will try my best.”

“Come on Ava don’t look so upset you never know it might be fun for once.” Leala said while pulling me outside.

Nodding, I walked the rest of the way and hopped into the car without saying anything. I really, really hate this ball. It makes me feel different because I look different I’m never myself at these balls. I always have to be lady-like and kind. When all I want to do is shove my cocktail prawns in the person’s face sitting next to me, talking about their daily abnormal lives.

It was a fast one minute drive to the palace. The house that I was now standing in front of had lights everywhere. You could easily tell that there was a party going on inside.

When I was about to walk into the house for my grand entrance I felt a hand touch my shoulder and turned to see a fragile hand placed there.

“Ava remember to wear your mask here.” Turning back around to face Leala, as she handed me the mask. I smiled then put it on my face to cover the person that I am and showing a different one. A fake one.

Smiling at her I walked back up to her and hugged her saying,

“Thank you for being here with me, if you weren’t I don’t think I will last that long here”

We both turned around and walked into the house

“Now introducing one of the Highest Hunter’s, Miss Ava Kingston.” Walking into the room when everyone is looking at you is always hard but in this room there looked like there was  around 1000 people in there and now they were looking at not really a happy thing.

“Hello Miss Kingston thank you for coming to the ball we hope you have a nice time here”

When you walked into the room you will always get the line from the person who introduces us

Then came all the people that wanted to meet you and that could be annoying when you just wanted to sit back and not talk to them but people come and you have to do it.

“Miss Kingston it’s nice to see you again and on a special day.”

Turing around I saw Mr. Scott who was a werewolf but with a vampire wife. Mr Scott was one of the werewolves who normally don’t follow the rules so I see him a lot of the time.

“It’s nice to see you too Mr. Scott instead of me having to find you.”

He nodded and continued,

“Yes it is Miss Kingston”

He the grasped my hand to shack goodbye then left with a

“Goodbye Miss Kingston”

As I walked away I saw myself in a mirror. I never thought I was pretty because of the life I’ve lived but most people think I was pretty or beautiful but I just didn’t think that. Looking in the mirror I saw my strawberry blonde hair and my bright blue eyes and my pink lips. I looked away disgusted by my image.

“Come on Ava, Master Hall wants to have a talk with everyone here.” Said Leala as she pulled me by the arm over towards the stage.

Master Hall was a guy in his early sixties who has been through a lot with the human, vampire and werewolf lifestyle. He was the person who decided that we needed this ball so a lot of the different lifestyles come together and see that were are just like the rest and he is also the Alpha Wolf in this area.

Everyone went and sat down and looked towards Master Hall waiting for him to speak.

“Hello everyone I’m here to welcome you to this ball tonight and to say thank you for everyone who made this night possible and not just a dream that I had ten years ago”

Everyone in the room started clapping and yelling in appreciation about his dream. Their dream. A dream to live without worrying that something was going to happen because you were and vampire or a werewolf.

“This is a special year because it’s the tenth year and this year I have decided that my son William Davies would be taking on  the position as Alpha. Now introducing my son William.

Everyone started clapping again and watched as the new Alpha walk onto the stage to take the spotlight which will be his for the next 50years. When i finally saw the new alpha my heart stopped as he was one of the most gorgeous man I have ever seen in my life.

“Hello everyone, as you just heard from my father I’m William and I will be running things now and I will be coming around to meet all of you, so till then I hope you have a good night.”

With that he left the stage and walked up to his father and out of my sight. That’s when my heart beat came back to life and I could breathe again.
