The Fire of LifeA Poem by ToldButNotListening(C) E. Edwards, December 2014
The Fire of Life
My hands never felt so light, So full of love and life. And this was never what I had planned. I promise I’m always here. I appreciate what you’ve done, And I swear your life will be my stand. But I’m afraid it’s not the end; The worst is still yet to come, Because the road I have is broken, cold as stone. And I'd love for you to come, But it may be too much to ask. I'm still searching for my own little piece of home. CHORUS: As I carry you in the haven I’ve built, I'd like to think I could be half the lover I should. And as much as I'm afraid, I know it'll feel so good. This world never looked so bright, So beautiful, painted with life, When darkness was all I’d ever known. Silence was never so gold, Screaming the lies I was told. Now your breath on my skin has given me hope. And I never thought you’d come, But when the fault was all my own, The fire of life swept its warmth through me. But I know I’m not alone, So I'll stay and hold you close, So nothing we've created will haunt me. CHORUS And I stare in awe at the wonderful life we’ve made. God, don’t let me close my eyes. Don’t fear, little girl, your time has finally come. Just hold on to me and feel alive. CHORUS X2 I know it’ll feel so good... © 2014 ToldButNotListening |
