First Sight

First Sight

A Poem by Sugar and Spice
"

Look deeper, look closer. Try to read between the lines, everything is so much more then what first meets the eye

"

There is always more than what meets the eye.

If you look a little closer you will see.

A missing piece of the puzzle,

A door with no key.

Life shows us pictures, some are incomplete,

But if you look that much closer,

The picture is complete.

The funny thing is, it’s our feet that do the wandering,

But with so much out there to see, shouldn’t our eyes be roaming?

In a society such as ours, eyes are cast down,

People do not wish to see, the sorrow that goes around.

Life is full of chances,

Just lift your eyes and see.

A beautiful sunset, a magical rainbow, or simply someone smiling sweet.

You cannot judge a book by its cover,

Or someone by their name.

Everyone has a story, everyone has a key.

So lift your eyes and look around,

And remember to look back twice,

Often we miss, that which must be seen,

There is always more then what we first see.

You deserved the first Prize in that contest. This is GOOD. you played with the words nicely. The theme is real and wide.
If we all start looking deeper and closer then we shall all succeed but its sad, that can never happen. Some people were born to be less careful.
(I love this poem)

You cannot judge a book by its cover,
Or someone by their name.
Everyone has a story, everyone has a key

Amen! It's such a shame how people believe in this maxim but do just the opposite!
Second? Aw! Congrats anyway!

Lot to learn from this magnificent poem!

This is a beautiful expression of something so true - it pays to observe, and not just with our eyes. I love how direct this is, and the wonderful rhythm to the lines.

I really like this poem. It was well written. That is so true what you put in this poem. You need to do more of that type of poem. Great job.

A poem that speaks a dire truth, showing both a problem in society as well as the blessing that can come from the counter to the issue. I really enjoyed the very real aspect to this, as I see it everywhere I go. I wish more people could look up, stop judging and just take the time to know their fellow mates in life.

Great Ink!

I do not for a moment believe that your poems are "somewhat depressive". Because I know for a fact that this isn't. This is sublime. Beautiful message presented in simple language. We do indeed miss things that must be seen. Thank you for this superb poem!

A wonderful message is conveyed in this poem. I often do judge and then I look back at the person later and think, they really aren't so bad. My friend used to hate me for reading books all the time, when at the time he did the same.
