Song of the Heart

Song of the Heart

A Poem by Emi
"

Breakups suck and I'm oftentimes dramatic in my writing, especially when I was younger.

"
If my heart could write you a song,
it would sound like the desolate twang of a broken violin.
Every note would be morphed, wrong,
and the lyrics would sound like sin.

If my heart could construct a beat,
it would sound like a busted drum.
Like the siren on the last boat left in a battalion fleet,
every creaking of its bass sounds numb.

If my heart could sing the words,
it would sound like an off-key guitar.
Like the wrong time of day for the birds,
and a nighttime without the shine of a star.

What I mean to say is that, no matter how hard I try,
everything in me is dull.
My mind is in pieces and my throat is dry,
but my heart can't stop singing the song of your soul.
