World of Warcraft Players have long wanted to own and decorate homes in Blizzard's MMORPG however it won't be part of the recently announced Dragonflight expansion. In several interviews WoTLK Gold game director Ion Hazzikostas has explained why.

The quick version is that player housing is a massive undertaking, and although there is a lot of support from both the development team and players as well, it's a ton of work while having to integrate thematically to the theme of any given expansion.

"Putting together the various features packages for an expansion is an assortment of what theme works with the expansion, and the features that will appeal to different types of players, but also what would be required to bring that feature to the standard that players demand they deserve and what would we have to sacrifice to make it happen... also, housing for players is an essential feature," Hazzikostas said in an interview with WoW content creator Hazelnutty. "It's the kind of things you need to get correctly... that's one of the biggest projects, the biggest undertaking, and I would say that if we were to implement it the feature would have to span multiple expansions--it's the largest feature available out of the box."

However, although housing for players won't be available in Dragonflight, Hazzikostas said "the dream remains alive" and said that it's something the team hopes to explore in the near future. This sentiment is echoed by Hazzikostas in numerous interviews as well as in interviews among other participants of The WoW team. Blizzard knows it's at the top in the list for requested features, they want to make it happen, but it's just a matter of allocating the proper resources and finding the right moment to announce it.
