This issue was addressed on Tuesday, but another massive number of concurrent users on the same day led to "degraded database performance," which engineers working on databases are trying on fixing. The situation is dire enough such that Diablo 2: Resurrected team has brought engineers from other divisions of Blizzard to aid in resolving smaller issues while focusing to address "core problems with servers."

"We have reached out to our third-party partners for help too," PezRadar said.

The irony is that Blizzard's desire to maintain the genuine Diablo 2 experience in the remake is the main cause of these issues. One "legacy service" in particular handles critical functions including "game creation/joining, updating/reading/filtering game lists, verifying game server health, and reading characters from the database."

It was updated and optimized for Diablo 2: Resurrected but remains rooted in 20 years-old technology, and it's having difficulty adapting to "modern player behavior."
