Come Out Alive

Come Out Alive

A Poem by Emily

At least I knew you

Wanted to get to know all of you,

Be able to talk about anything with you

Vulnerable and intimate

Be comfortable with who I am

When I’m with you

We were lost,

Desperate,

And confused

Using drugs here and there,

Regretting these days,

Partying, like there was no tomorrow

Orientation, first girl crush I remember

Going to rehab together, we bonded

Talked all night from fairies to midnight skies

Made out in the bathroom stall, kissing passionately,

As we stared into each other’s eyes

College stress and overwhelm

Didn’t know if we’d come out alive

Here you are, with a career you dreamed of

I admire you, more than that,

I’m afraid to say, I feel like I love you

Amanda, I love you.

Love is defined as an intense feeling of deep affection - gender doesn't come into it … great write, wonderful share and honest poetical write … kudos … :-)

this was wonderfully expressed. i loved the passion flowing through the poem. It's really feels like true love with the imagery and the words. Almost everyones tiny lil wish. to be this way with someone they love.

Thank you. Yes, definitely a wish for people.
yes kind of we all ran through this ,it give me aches about hard times lived through, each like an adventure ,wonder if it was worth living it,times feels sorry like it was all just a waste..others times tell me i had to live it all, taste it all bitter or sweet..its life how dare me doubt how it all sounded years after years..its a life anyway..loved the thoughts all through

I don't think I can do the below review justice, but what I will say is that there was just the right amount of contract is beautiful imagery here in order to create a really stunning poem.

I congratulate you on your sobriety.

No problem. I wish you the best for the future.
This poem proceeds gently and assuredly, plotting the progress from confusion and uncertainty to success and self-belief. The statement, 'I love you' is as much about confidence as emotion.

I was particularly struck by the contrasting images of the fairies and the midnight sky and the making out 'in the bathroom stall' - a down-to-earth touch of reality which in no way undermined the beautiful feeling of passion.

I was especially affected by the lesbian love that suffused the writing, and the natural matter-of-factness of the feelings expressed. You captured a lifetime in a few words, wasting nothing.

Emily, I loved your poem.
