Too Much PressureA Poem by EmilyA mushroom surrounded by darkness A pumpkin shaded by its vines Standing upright, I wish I could hide Intricate necklace pulling down on me Wishing I could abandon this party People swarm around concessions table Grabbing chips, ordering another drink Ambition stuck inside me like glue Keeping up with appearances Easier said than done Feeling like my inner voices are eavesdropping my thoughts Gossiping about me Why must the voices eavesdrop? Lack of focus, must smile Can’t afford to be uncommon Must be common, must succeed No matter the costs, no matter what Longing to take off my necklace, dragging down on me© 2016 EmilyReviews
