The Wandering Tree

The Wandering Tree

A Poem by Emily Feret
"

Not sure where the inspiration from this one came from, honestly, I think from Lord of The Rings? :)

"

The tale has been told,
Thought up by great minds,
Long ago,
Of an old wandering tree.

His massive limbs
Swayed in the wind
And once every year,
He would stand perfectly still.
And shed all of his leaves.

And when he was bare
Others would stop,
And some would stare,
At the stoic,
Proud,
Naked,
Old wandering tree.

He stood there tall and proud.
Rooted himself deep.
Firm. into the ground.
Exposing himself for all to see.

He endured judging eyes,
And words that cut him deep,
But the old, naked, wandering tree
Just closed his tired eyes,
And breathed.

High he kept his head held
Every time his leaves fell
And silent he would be

And then
Every spring
His leaves would return
And wandering again he would be.

You should be standing tall and proud like the wandering tree because the writing is solid like the tree itself.

"And then
Every spring
His leaves would return"

You ended on a beautiful note! Come to think of it, isn't all of nature like the tree? Nature is dynamic, ever-changing and moves in circles, yet it is beautiful in all of its forms. Thanks for sharing, this was a wonderful read! :)

This kind of made me think of how when people are at their most insecure they will tend to go to where they are most comfortable or at least stop trying to be quite as outgoing as before, kind of like your tree when it sheds all its leaves.

Wow, I love your insight and hearing what this poem expressed to you! Thank you so much
This brought the "Old Trees" of Tolkien back to mind...

Once upon a time even the world dreamed ...as the trees swayed to the evenng's breeze and the music of the stars.

yes! It was inspired by those very trees :)
The wandering tree is a really good metaphor for portraying the vicissitudes in a person's life. The shedding of leaves and growing of foliage come spring are transparent references to changes in fortune. I like the way you have portrayed the trees endurance through its suffering. I liked the line "words that cut him deep". You have transferred to "words", the job that axes are extremely adept at performing. Overall, you've kept it neat and simple. So a good read it is!
