I believe you

I believe you

A Poem by Duckey

You kiss your knuckles
Before you punch me in the face
You tell me it's a kiss
And i believe you

You slice open my skin
With your fingernails
You tell me it's an accident
And i believe you

You break my heart
with your words
But you tell me you love me
And i believe you

I like this. The simple phrase "and I believe you" repeated at the end of each verse speaks volumes. We believe because we want to believe and we want to believe because we want to be loved. The moment we stop believing we have to admit that someone has stopped loving us.

It's a sad poem but beautifully crafted. Not as harsh as those about domestic abuse can be but perhaps more powerful because of that?

Thank you for sharing this.
