Friends

A Poem by MLE

An Ode To My Friends,
I'm breaking the conventions,
that I seem to stick tight along,
because some things I've learned,
have no rhyme or reason and really thats okay.
Sometimes you have to take what is thrown at you with a steady, golden face and smile and say;
"well, alright, we'll try again tomorrow"
But often, lately, when I really should be down and out,
alone and stressed and seemingly out of luck,
it seems to be those times that this overwhelming feeling floods throughout my soul,
down each limb like a cascading waterfall,
silver rivers inching through me as if the world is spinning just for me and it is at my fingertips.
This all encompassing sweeping motion has carried me high above the soft cotton clouds away from the dark and damp corners of bars that have stolen away my youth and crushed it to the walls.
Meaningless kisses smeared like blood across the floor, a crimson red that only I can see.
I am high above that now being carried by white and shimmering steeds.
This is new.
I have always been one to overthink and overanalyse then often overshare, but this time it is different.
I stop to think, what is this deus ex machina, that has come to take me away?
No, not take me away,
clear my sight?
Then I realise,
it is no sun god with an omnipotent spear, bedazzled by rubies and emeralds, the most beautiful I have ever seen,
No.
It is the girl with blue and indigo in her hair that is always there to listen, even in the most inconvenient times, she will smile and say, "it'll be alright, you got this." in a soft and silky tone that steadies me. She has seen so much yet never makes me feel alone.
It is the tall boy who plays big brother when my family is far away.
A guiding hand in this world and he doesn't even know his way.
The blind leading the blind can often create amazing stories I've come to see and he has gifted that to me.
The girl with flames upon her head and in her heart with every step, they poor like a wildfire from her words and engulf the world in her unyielding confidence and constant joy in my life.
But her fires do not damage anything, they leave little ruby flowers dotted in my vision like music notes playing a sweet symphony.
I cannot forget the giddy couple who both make me laugh and never make me feel a clown with shoes too big invading every step,
but a little fairy dancing between two beacons of love,
All of you people,
and plenty more,
make up every drop of the sea that carries me above the dark depths,
that make every inch of me tingle with glee,
letting me take a deep breath and shrug off the heavy winter coat that has shrouded me for just a little too long,
you are the air that fills my lungs with the sweet and crisp early spring air.
For you are causing my regrowth,
You deserve every happiness in this world,
Every drop of love you get and feel, multiply it by ten.
You are the souls that keep the world a glow.
I want you all to be showered in rubies and wrapped in silks and satins,
However I cannot afford rubies,
nor can I swaddle you all in silks and satins.
What I can offer you is a warm embrace whenever you feel cold,
a shoulder for you to call home when you feel cast aside, an ear to listen to your woes and a bandage to heal your scars.
I will not judge you for being you, because you have made me whole again.
I will hold your hands and bring you up with me on the sea of life you have created,
Friends supporting friends,
This is new. This is now.
