HawkEyed

HawkEyed

A Poem by MLE

Another day of hawk eyed glances
Across the room, an emotion dances
Afresh and new but broken in
Friends among friends and kin among kin

But over by the corner left
A glance is snatched and away is swept
To other girls in shiny shoes
With ways to take and love and woo

Creating flutters near and far
A little tap upon the bar
Of fingers intertwined and held
The hours into one do blend

But being second is not the best
Despite being told pre-leaving the nest
That winning isn't everything
But bitter tastes like lingering

Unwelcome lips from unwanted friends
Is always how it seems to end
And now some tears to top it off
But it's not being second that makes me scoff

It's the sense of false entitlement
That has made a home and pays its rent
Within the walls of someone new
So no, these tears do not fall for you.
