A Poem by Emily

our first conversation was about
where we are in the universe
a perspective we will never see
a tear evolves into a raindrop
now an ice cube in my mouth

he smoothed his black, thick hair and
straightened his shirt
I sipped my rum and coke
to make it last
in my favorite dive bar
our bodies revealing the truth

the booze was free at his house
sharing a hard liquor connection
that pierced his brain when fear
ripped apart the electric cord
between us, I gasped with my hand on my chest as he pressed
His palm into his forehead

I fell asleep in my amethyst earrings
and purple cotton dress
a force field around me, or so the Gypsy said
with his stumbling fingers on my hip
gravity pulled together what time
killed

Two lonely souls looking for temporary comfort in each others arms and an escape from the dive that is Life sometimes. Great metaphors Emily and wonderful phrases in this dirty glass of a write - gritty and real and very very readable. :)

We were definitely aching from loneliness and it was painfully temporary with an explosive ending.
