Missed Understandings

Missed Understandings

A Poem by Emily

He tells me that he got a job

In a department store

   Selling suits

On Wednesday's

  Thursday's he flips

Burgers

Friday's he mows lawns

  Sunday's he goes to church

 It was Saturday night

And the week's lies

      Did not matter then

Or now

                  We were

         Here! Here!

Outside on a cement ledge

   While sitting on metal steps

Under a ghetto spotlight

      A train blew its horn

         Cars drove by

He shouted

"You know nothing about me"

  My knees  still burning

   Coagulation occurring

Nature always wins
