Heart

Heart

A Poem by Emily Wright

It thumps for life
It pounds for power
It works all day
All night long to
It flutters with love
It swells with passion
It crumbles from pain or devastation
It’s used as a symbol
A symbol of love
A symbol of life
But when it’s broken a new symbol is formed
A symbol of pain
You see them whole
But some in pieces
The heart is such a wonderful thing
It does so many things
It thumps for life
But when it stops
You see the light
And when you reach that destination
You shall be happy
You will be happy
For all of eternity.
