17 days until Christmas

17 days until Christmas

A Chapter by Emily B

Mama was gone today. While she attended the ladies sewing circle with all our friends and neighbors, there came a knock at our door. Curiosity was too much for me and so I went to see who it might be. A young soldier, not so much older than me, asked if I might help him write a letter home. I brought him in, sat him in the parlor and fetched him something to eat.  Then taking pencil and paper in hand and using my best script, we conspired to write a Christmas greeting home to his family.
