ophelia

ophelia

A Poem by Emily B

I never pitied Ophelia

enough.

Never understood her

grief-

to lose and be lost.

I think I must be crazy now.

My mind wandered off

when you did

and I don't know

how to fetch it back.

He loves me

He loves me not

rue and remembrance

and something forgotten too

the river sometimes

calls my name

there are flowers

there

Of course the painting you chose has an incredible history as well. Poor old Lizzie Siddall. Back to the poem however. This rings. I love the way you have placed the words like water flowing. And of course I love the subject matter especially when it is placed in such a human and personal setting.

the flowers seem to blossom in the deepest despair..the bottom of the river, brighter than ever before. Ophelia's story has long been one of my favorites.

The last three stanzas reside on that topmost shelf which is dusty from lack of company.

. oh, you've said it all ... brings me to the question of who can love ... i think it is people who can face themselves ... people who can face their past, present and future ... for me, it is more significant to love ... to cherish how and when and how often and how well ... i love this poem of yours ... possibly more than any other ... because you love beautifully ... amazing work, dear emily ... perfect ... just like you ...
