fear

fear

A Poem by Emily B

the darkness from my dreams

always followed me

it spilled over into days

and nights

you would never find me outside after dusk

lights were mysteriously left on

all over the house

I pretended not to notice

the lights

or the fear that followed me

but there is a place

where my dreams can't follow

where the ghosts of the past

don't crowd

where I feel safe

I find it amusing and weird of me to say, but I am scared of light. Photo-phobia. Light gives me a insecurity of judgment. Darkness makes me safe and covered. (this might explain who I really am, maybe?)
Awesome thou not be finished...
I love how you associated darkness of fear.
(the reason why people are scared of darkness isn't the opaque obscurity, but the unknown INSIDE the shade.)

Can't wait 'til it is done.

..as long as you can find that special place where you feel safe..that is all that matters.. A different side of you, Emily ..we all have our vulnerabilities..our phobias..I sure do have mine

but there is a place

where the ghosts of the past

Those places are rare and can slip out from us without warning. Hang on to it.

For once, my feelings when reading your poem agree with your diagnosis of being not quite finished :) I don't know what it's missing, your special touch somewhere. The pace and tone are really good, the words sort of creeping/tip-toeing into my brain the way darkness does into a room.
Let me know when you've done some more to it(?)

I guess we all have a place like there, where we can hide. That last stanza reminds me of the one I use.

my little girl image in her red cape remembers this brand of fear~ softest sighs~tip toeing back into the corner to await the remining petals to ligth the room~
