plant a seed

plant a seed

A Poem by Emily B
"

the idea is cliche, been done so many times before, yet it may grow into something taller

"

Plant a seed, he said,

and how could I resist?

If it's got enough heart in it

and we shine enough love on it

and sit back to watch it grow.

If I am patient enough

to wait through long years

sheltering the tiny green tendrils

as they reach hopefully

through the earth

I may one day find myself blessed

with fragrant blooms

of brilliant color.

And then I had a day where I went back and asked

how do I learn patience?
I planted a seed
but I worry that the sun will be too hot
the wind too harsh
the rains drowning

He told me

just tell yourself that you're willing...the listener is deep inside, listening...

they say "a watched pot never boils"..but that's just a misleading statement made to a curious child. It does boil, even if you're watching it. It might be more productive to chop the vegetables and throw in spices along the way, checking up on it naturally as you flow into a cooking routine. A good meal, like anything, takes love and time to be palatable...like what you're describing in this piece.
so anyway, yea..this is a nicely painted diagram of the growth process. It views like a nice watercolor. But it could also be describing the patience and nurturing required for any sort of goal or aspiration..so in that way it's universal [see review where I describe the true essence of simplicity].

it's never a cliche to take what we learn on this earth by means of creation and apply it to everyday life. Simple lesson expressed so beautifully.

To have patience, one must first acquire faith.
You are a merchant of the heart, Emily, who deals in lovely things.
Truly hopeful and greatly reassuring work.

I love the answer that he gave you when you were worried that it would not be able to grow. "Just tell yourself that you're willing...the listener is deep insdie, listening..." We are all planted souls in the ground needing nurishment, warmth, love, patience, and someone who is willing to stick around and support us through the good times and the bad.

I think I really like! It's always consoling when someone reviews your stuff to go read theirs and realize they really know what they're talking about!

It may be a cliche idea, but I don't think it gets old. This one really seems to be talking about something on the inside of a person to me - I don't know if you meant it that way, but I saw much more than a flower.

This is the kind of poem that I'd actually love to set to music! And I mean art music, in a classical Romantic style.

amazing that with so many "if"s involved, the blooming things come through for us time and time again...just goes to show...if we listened to all the nay-sayers, we'd never achieve anything...no better lesson on life than that of a beautifully persistent flower...
I wonder if he same goes for us too?
I wish...
lovely piece of wisdom...
bet you're not a teenager...lol
