The Grandfather

The Grandfather

A Chapter by Emily B
"

too new to tell

"

There will be no one

to follow in his footsteps

in the paths of the old ancestors.

He prays for friends and enemies.

He tells the stories of the old ones

so that they are not forgotten.

His wisdom and humility

is an example for all creation.

Now he waits for the Old Ones

to come back to us.

love that last line, a lovely poem that shows so much respect for age, and a wonderful empathy for people. It is only a poet that would see the 'wisdom and humility' that old disputes are now forgiven and forgotten. There is a sense of preparing for death, setting everything straight. My grandfather used to tell wonderful stories of the past and your poem made me think of him :)

I'm on page what? of this Kodachrome of images...generous spirited men across the years, pages really, imprints, now shared, passed on, so to speak...

I can hear the rattling and the thumping and the chanting..but it's faint
something is leaving and something is approaching perhaps.

I have an incredible grandfather. I'm so afraid for the day he will leave us ... there will be no one who can ever fill his footsteps.

I like this. I think that it's profound and for me, it evokes a lot of thought and emotion.
