angels, again

angels, again

A Poem by Emily B
"

not where I thought I would go, but a stop on the journey all the same

"

Leroy is an angel.

Standing at the busy intersection

sweating in the summer sun

with hand-lettered sign

and corresponding words

painted on his t-shirt.

I marvel at his martial enthusiasm.

Shining, Messenger of God,

reminding us that this life

is fleeting

as I drive past Kroger

on my way to other things.

while I can't say that Jesus is coming THIS year, his message of repent or perish always catches my eye. found the photo on flickr, surprised me to find him there--a little. And I wonder mostly what my local churches would do if Leroy showed up on Sunday morning.

My belief has always been that good speaks through people. And my belief has always been that evil lives in people. Those that do the most good here on earth are angels. A man with a handwritten sign can indeed be an angel.

I wonder if there is a second coming If believing will be enough to be saved? Maybe people like Leroy will get a seat on the front of the bus.

I like his t-shirt that says Jesus saves. Does Jesus save at Kroger? :-)

A contemporary piece....I love it!

loved this...no one knows when, But I think I may have met Leroy once at the corner light by the tire Garage, he came across the road at me wanting to bum a cigarette, feeling generous and half freaked he may try to open the car door I tossed the whole pack at him and smiled as I drove off, he seemed particularly pleased with me that day.

Once again you make sure "the little things" are made to be powerful. I have come to the conclusion that poetry is just another avenue that you walk in this life. I think unconsciously, you make your work simple and vivid.

I met a guy at an intersection a cpl weeks ago. We talked for the few moments while waiting for the light to change. He had a similar message. When we pulled away my kid said, "He's the coolest, I want to be just like him when I grow up. I think he's an angel." His approach was pretty cool.
I love the poem because of it's message and the specifics like Leroy and Kroger. Very cool writing ...

This was great! Even though it is short, the point still showed very clearly. Like RagtagJesus, I like the ending the most. Keep on writing!
