Inspired by height

Inspired by height

A Poem by Emily B
"

though this is too small to express it yet; inspired by an image sent by Ken Simm

"

There was a man once on a mountain

climbing to the heights of unseen hopes.

His clouded visage focused on scenes I cannot see

and if I could discern but little

of the tales that soul might tell;

if I could read the stature of his heart,

by his all too gallant posture on the hill--

does he look down on the valley?

Does he wonder at the depth?

Or lost in craggy revery of rocks I cannot reach

is he lost in wandering dreams

of cloud-filled steeps not gained?

i wanted to find something really old from you but it isn't dusty... mountains do, i suppose, wistfully stare at valleys and higher peaks... there is something of a desire that keeps us wanting to discover more and your words are proud of their vagrancy...

I met men in India who stayed on mountain tops for over 20 with no food or water.
I climbed to just sit with them as they said nothing and were in constant prayer
for all of us. I met like women but they stayed in caves with spiders and dangerous snakes
as their companions and were more talkative but only about the weather outside or
mundane topics. Another difference about the creatures known as men and women.

Love your poem.

Looking back and down can please, as we recollect what has been in the tranquillity of our moment... but always theer are heights to conquer still, there are steps that take us nearer the blue sky

But it could be everything. His mind may be everywhere. But I think more in awe. The picture is a lovely one. And the poem compliments it well.

What a surprise. I am honoured that you were inspired to write such a lovely piece by my image. and it is lovely. As WKK says a winsomeness about it that appeals.

Oh, no--quite a bit of something, I would think. It is very mindful of the other Emily, with her seemingly small inquiries into cosmic issues. Short, but not incomplete at all--I think expanding it would rob it of its winsomeness and wistful quality. The strength of this piece kind of sneaks up on you.
