what I want

what I want

A Poem by Emily B

As I am a woman and changeable,
I cannot tell you what I need--

not flowers or jewels or sweet perfume.

Today, I want the sun and moon and stars.

Tomorrow, I may only want to hear
the quiet hum of your voice.

Tonight, I may ask you to move a mountain.

By morning's light, I might need a loving word
or two.

Don't think I would ask you to change for me.
You'll do the way you are for now.

But, tomorrow--well,

by then,
I may change my mind.

A very clever take on the old chestnut about women being fickle--but there's more than just one-note cleverness here. As the learned Mr. Simm states, the flow and cadence in the piece are excellent, the result of fine craftsmanship, and the interplay between the cosmic and everyday is handled expertly. Just a very fine piece of work.

Mmm..it is often said that men are unchangeable, and i think the flip side of this is nicely done. Lovely work!!

That's great!!
It's not that a woman can't be pleased, it's that it won't last. :)
Have fun.

We hold firm on the right to change our minds, it is our prerogative for now and forever .... Excellent writing as you made an 'moldy oldie' fresh, new and alive. I enjoyed this ....

LOL I think most men would read this and either think, thank god I'm not alone my girl is just like this or just plain run away. Women will read this and either laugh or nod. I know I drive my guy crazy, but then again he does that to me too and we wouldn't put up with it if we didn't care for each other.

I really enjoy the carefree, guilt-free, matter of fact tone of this poem Great job.

I like how consistant you are about being inconsistant without apologizing. However I think this is not something that applies only to women, people as a whole are fluid and malleable (sp?). good flow.

very honest, which in turn, makes it very simple and very powerful.

(for some reason i found it amusing to overuse the word "very.")
