The Curse

The Curse

A Poem by Emily B
"

My words don't come in metered, rhyming forms. They come like the rain, sudden and unexpected, falling straight down.

"

I try to write in metered rhyme
and write the way they wrote.
I just can't seem to make my soul
Fit in the little lines.

The jagged pieces of my heart
stick out this way and that.
How can I let you see my Soul
and expect the thing to rhyme?

I thought everything was supposed to rhyme until I came to the Cafe and learned that it's the words that matter, not necessarily the style or format.
Some of the most meaningful things I've written (for me anyway) have been in a style I'm told is known as "free verse".
I've never studied writing or poetry. I don't know all the different styles and forms. But I do know when something was written from the heart and I know when it touches me, no matter the style.

You just go ahead and let it pour young lady!

You speak for me, I only write in metered rhymes when I want to be sarcastic,I will live and die a poet of free verse, for me the rumpy-dumpy of rhyme locks me in a cage and stops me from trying to say what I want..great poem - true !

I saw this on my refrigerator once, in a dream
actually, it was a crude drawing of a dinosaur eating a caveman
but I knew what it said, no matter how it seemed
The moral:? witnessing a hurricane don't make you a cajón

but in all seriousness,
people think they've written a haiku because they clunked out a five seven five
without ever sitting in front of the willows under bulbous clouds at dusk until dawn, let alone allowing five minutes of true epiphany

anyway, great sarcasm and execution, as always

.. yes, that was a laugh. This is wonderful! You are a superb writer and poet and the question of whether to rhyme or not can only be answered by your heart. This really is delightful - especially when read aloud. The last line has made me laugh again! Thank you :)
