Revival

Revival

A Poem by Emily B
"

written after a weekend at an 1805 Kentucky Camp Meeting

"

Like the ember
smouldering
unseen in the ashes,
my heart will someday
flame passionately.
One breath--
is all I need
to change this
seeming-charred soul
into a
furious
fire.

That's all it takes and sometime it can come from sources we least expect. One moment you're feeling down and the next completely rejuvenated and ready to conquer the world. I love the allusion of rising from your own ashes like a phoenix here.

I believe you, Emily!
A smartly styled, profoundly intense bit of work--whose emotional heat I can feel from here.
Powerful!

Hmmmm, Emily Burns..I take it that this was not a revival "camp meeting"?
Unless the preacher was a handsome fellow.
I love short poems, that make my imagination run wild, this one is no exception.

so many thoughts... all kinds of life being God-breathed; Spirit as Wind; this story i heard once about DL Moody; what it is to be an ember, stirred; how the char is only a thin veneer, and beneath is still the flame, entombed... but mostly this: to everything a season; a time to smoulder, a time to burn.
